Band 5+: TASK 2: Many people put their personal information online (address, telephone number, and etc.) for purposes such as signing up for social networks or online banking. Is this a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is ongoing trend of people sharing their private details online, such as addresses, phone numbers as well as transferring money, while they are doing daily tasks such as banking, shopping, and interacting. I believe that this is a negative development because it could lead to serious identity theft.

One of the major disadvantages is that some companies could save private information after your registration. Especially, this could lead to cybercrime such as stealing money from bank account if security of company is low. Meanwhile, it is related to social media because some people share personal pictures, especially achievements on the Internet. In this case, more hackers can track the digital footprint from their profile to do harassment. Although some people suffer from online harassment, many harms are caused by the trend of sharing personal information online. It undoubtedly has a negative impact.

Secondly, it is undeniable that many people buy items from the online shops and interact with strangers on the Internet chats. Furthermore, they closely share private details with each others, this could have a more negative impact on their devices because it could lead to access to their security systems by their digital footprint. Meanwhile, some users could be doxxed or trolled by strangers. Although the credibility of social networks is considerably low, some users access social platforms for commercial purposes, in this case, some older people could highly vulnerable to lose their money.

In conclusion, more and more people uploading personal information to the internet is this negative trend. It involves different types of cybercrime, for example, stealing money, doxxing, trolling, especially harassment.
