Nowadays, numerous states prefer hosting international sports events, however, on the other side, remaining countries believe that organizing a sports event brings more issues and downsides than advantages.
To begin with, the first advantage is cultural exchange. Individuals from all over the world visit sports events, gather at exactly one location, does not even matter whether the event is held in a stadium or a swimming pool. They communicate with each other while experiencing the local culture, and it is definitely a huge advantage, both for a country and for a nation. The second feature to discuss, hosting increases the country’s international popularity and attracts more tourist, which can lead to significant economic growth. Furthermore, promoting locals may provide an enormous chance for local sportsmen, to become a professional. Moreover, holding international events may require or cause an improvement of infrastructure of the city in overall, and it is an excellent benefit for locals. Additionally, popularization of the sports in hosting countries affects positively on people’s health side. The ratio of sportsmen to non-sportsmen, individuals who simply do not do any exercises, in “frequent-hosting” countries, such as Japan, France or the USA, is usually higher than in other ones.
However, one major disadvantage is the considerable financial cost involved in organizing such an event. The governments of some countries may consider hosting sports events as an investment in the country’s economy, for instance, through ticket sales, however, there is a possibility that the budget may not be recovered, and in some cases, the country might fall into debt. Otherwise, they could spend this amount of money on more essential needs, such as healthcare, heating and social services.
In conclusion, the benefits of hosting an international sports events outweigh the drawbacks, and from my side of view, I would rather say that I am completely on the side of benefits.
