In these days, many educational systems focus on STEM-related subjects, while they give insufficient attention to literature. From my point of view, it is a negative development, since it creates an unbalanced educational system and children do not grow morally or culturally.
On the one hand, giving disproportionate importance to science paves the way for an unequal educational arrangement. When learning institutions such as schools and universities focus too much on science and technology, students may lose their creativity, emotional intelligence, and communication skills. As a result, in the future, they cannot build long-lasting communication in society. Scientific subjects lead to a generation that is technically developed, however emotionally and culturally unskilled.
On the other hand, placing little emphasis on drama and literature reduces school students’ cultural knowledge because of the focus on scientific subjects. Through learning humanities, they understand human emotions, ethics, and culture. Whereas if they do not know about things like this, they might be good workers, but lack empathy and cultural awareness. Without such understanding, they might treat others purely logically rather than emotionally, which can lead to poor teamwork or misunderstanding in social situations.
In conclusion, I strongly believe that learning only subjects related to science without studying literature is a negative development, as it creates unequal access to education and students’ knowledge of literature declines.
