Economic progress is often considered the primary objective by many governments in developed countries. While this perspective holds sway, there are others who contend that achieving economic equality is equally imperative for a nation. In my opinion, governments should strive to establish long-term objectives that encompass economic parity across all segments of society, from the lowest to the highest stratum of the economic hierarchy.
Advocates of economic progress as the foremost goal highlight its numerous benefits that foster a robust economic environment. This growth, for instance, can enhance opportunities for both domestic and international direct investments, leading to increased employment opportunities for citizens. Moreover, it can result in higher remuneration for workers across different sectors and facilitate greater accessibility to entrepreneurial endeavors. While these advantages are palpable, it is pertinent to consider other pivotal goals.
Conversely, it is my contention that individuals at the base of the economic pyramid, who are integral to the functioning of the economy, are often neglected and marginalized amidst the adverse repercussions of economic advancement. This oversight underscores the fact that economic growth does not always translate into commensurate benefits for all members of society, thereby perpetuating disparity. To illustrate, let us consider an average derived from the sums of two and eight, resulting in ten, thus suggesting an equality of five. In this analogy, the figure of two represents those at the lower echelons of the economic hierarchy, while the figure of eight symbolizes those at the top, exemplifying the inherent inequality.
In conclusion, governments should broaden their focus to encompass facets of economic growth that underscore the contribution of small and medium enterprises, as this would lead to a more equitable distribution of economic progress. A multi-faceted approach that prioritizes economic parity would engender a fairer and more inclusive economic landscape.
