The topic of if a museum should be allowed to charge or keep the admissions free is debatable. But my thoughts on this topic are that a museums should be allowed to charge the bare minimum. In this essay, I will put my points with relevant real life examples to support and prove my argument.
Firstly, every place require money to keep themselves in the run.In the case of museums, there are various financial challenges such as taking care of infrastructure, maintaining the valuable pieces, security and cameras. Secondly, these costs cannot be balanced without a source of income. In our history, there have be many cases where theft occured and many high priced ornaments were lost. In such cases, rather then cutting costs it would have been better to pay the security guards.
Although, by putting a price tag it might stop the non wealthy from visiting and gaining
historical knowledge, still it is necessary to have a budget so the organization can run for long time period so the future generation can also study our history. There are many cases in our time, where many organizations even with good intensions were not able to run without money. For example, in 2008 due to financial crisis many non-profitable organizations were shut down in the United States.
To conclude, I would say that we have to put a cheap price tag on admission so, our future generations can also enjoy the history we do. Even if this might seem cruel toward the poor, it is the reality of the world we live in.
