In modern society, with the population keep raising and many cities having a big problem is housing shortage. This essay will discuss about the causes and give solutions.
Most people have a mindset that we need to move to the city for work and for our child’s education. They will migrate to big city and this is the main reason why urban areas are facing housing shortage. More people will lead to more demanding for house, the population rise rapidly but house could not build that fast so that is why people in city faced this problem. For example, in Mumbai, a city that most person migrate to, over time it causes overcrowded slums, the government can not build enough low-cost houses for migrant people so they usually move to slums.
Here are some of my solutions I suggested. First, having a better city plan encourage more vertical housing, can hold more person, combine with better transport. Encourage other to use public transport more to save more space so that they can build houses in the surrounding areas. Second, the government should offer lower tax rate for developer who build low-cost building, reduce bureaucracy in construction approvals to save more time for buildings, soon will provide enough house for migrate people. Who migrate. Last but not least, is to impose tax on vacant homes and speculative purchases and ensure housing serves people, not just for profits only. There are lots of building even build but not for living just for profit selling.
In conclusion, the main causes for this problem is urbanisation, poor planning, speculation, building still not using its ability for housing. The problem can be solved just by urban innovation and the target of policy changes.
