History defines the culture of every nation and the notion of erasing the sights of that history is demolishing the idea of ethnicity. Governments have legislated laws to protect old buildings as for it’s importance in many facets namely, culture ,identity and tourism ,however, comparing the need to construct new buildings for purposes like homes and corporates to the importance of maintaining the old buildings is definitely settled in favor of the preserving the old buildings .
Firstly, The cultural aspect for sustaining the old buildings represented in defining the details of the identity of each nation embodied in the details of the ancestors in their architecture techniques and as an example the pharos have written many of their social life ,rituals they made before a lot of their activities ,So erasing such history in favor of having new buildings that represents evolution is a comparison that have no benefit as new buildings can be built anywhere.
Secondly, The tourism facet is one of the most important points that stands in favor of defending the idea to protect the old buildings from demolishing as they can be used to increase the national income such as cairo tower ,historical hotels like cecil hotel in alexendria which contribute in the evolution of the country ,while having new buildings doesn’t contribute directly in the increasing of the country income and can be built anywhere and there is no need to remove these buildings in order to build new ones.
Finally, having new buildings in order to have more houses and offices doesn’t contradict with the idea of maintaing the old ones , As have been done in Egypt having new cities away from the capital ensure the idea of having vast lands to build new cities with developed infrastructure and simultaneously preserving our old ones.
