Nowadays, most parents relocate to foreign countries for their careers and bring their families with them. I strongly believe that the merits far prevail over the potential drawbacks.
One of the most cogent upsides is career opportunities. International work experience opens doors to many opportunities like higher income, promotions, or global connections. When parents move for work, they will be able to work in giant companies, which offer great salaries and benefits, such as medical insurance or payment for children’s education. For instance, if you are an engineer, you can move to China, a country demanding employees in this field for big corporations. As a result, this sort of growth not only benefits for parents, it changes the quality of life the better, and they would not have to cover educational expenses too.
Another equally compelling advantage is that it secures a better future for children. In foreign countries, children have access to international high-level schools, which is one of the main factors for applying to top universities. For example, if children from Central Asia immigrate to USA, they will gain competitive experience among students from different cultures and get advanced studies like the IB. Consequently, they will have bigger advantages than at home while applying to elite colleges.
Nevertheless, there are some downsides, such as experiencing culture shock. A child who has lived only in one country and has not travelled at all can fell disorientated when he sees different lifestyles, cultures and food. As a real example, a kid who moved to China may not be comfortable with people’s habits or spicy meals. Thus, they will not be able to act freely as they will suffer from environmental stress.
In conclusion, although youths can face culture shock, I believe development is largely beneficial. Not only does it open work opportunities, but it also grants an improved future for youngsters. Therefore, it is recommended that parents should support their children in that kind of situations in order to avoid mental health problems.
