Some people advocate that learning history has less value for people living in the present while others have opposite opinion which history is a very important subject. In my opinion, while history is important to understand complicate factors around the globe, not everyone has to learn about ancient periods.
Supporters of historical education argue that current world is made from what people have done in the past eras. For example, there are many military bases for the United States in Japan because we lost the World War II. The army is not existed just to dominate some part of our country but also for protecting Japan against nearby countries. It is essential for Japanese to learn history to understand why there are military base for other country. Some people hesitate to spontaneously learn about negative aspects to them. Therefore, it is important to educate people history as a subject.
On the other hand, some people believe learning about older era is waste of time. According to a survey which was conveyed among high school students in Japan asking about their thoughts about the educational systems, more than 50% of the students said it was boring for them to learn about ancient history such as building Pyramids, while students like to study those periods were accounted for only 30% of the survey. From this result, not every people need to learn ancient period in their classrooms.
In my point of view, learning modern history is very important, while ancient history is not always need to be taught as a subject. People who is curious about older periods can learn by using the Internet or visiting historical sites. However, we all must be aware about what is going on around the world and what has caused the situation.
In conclusion, although educating about ancient era should not be forced to everyone, we should be curious about current circumstance therefore modern history is a very important subject.
