Due to technological improvement in transportation, it is easier for people travelling around the world. Some people encourage international travel as it could stimulate economic growth. While others raises concern on the negtive effects on local communities.
First of all, foreign tourists used to be more willing and able to spend money on private consumption. Take Italy as example, it is famous for luxury brand and many high-end customer travel to purchase products which might be more expensive in their home country. Such spending will boost financial income to local businesses, which is positive to the society as a whole.
However, there is drawback from the locals. Too many tourists will overwhelm the city, which affect local’s daily live. For instance, Kyoto it is a well known historical city located in Japan, international tourists are flooding into the city and the number keep mounting every years. This further lead to complaint from locals, as tourists have driven up local price level and occupying public transport. This make Kyoto less livable than before.
From my prospective, the government need to take up a management role to balance the pros and cons of cross-border travelling. Its economical benefit is definitely temptating but the government also need to put community welfare at priority.
In conclusion, cross-border travel can induce more economic activities which generate income for the society. However, it could also be disturbing to local communities and affect their daily routine. It is important to manage tourist wisely by balancing the benefit as well as its downside.
