Social media has become an integral part of every digitalised person. Nowadays, when all communication between adolescents substantially relies on the social media, many people ask themselves whether being dependent on the social media has a negative impact on their well-being, or whether it rather amplifies their mental health by providing an enormous number of information available.
Some people may argue that social media is considerably beneficial as it provides a huge network connection to the outer world that can help people to find new friends across the world, no matter where they are located. For example, a person with no friends in the real-life world can find a new friend on social media, which can enhance their well-being. Moreover, many teenagers usually find people who have the same hobbies or interests interests with which they can talk to each other.
On the other hand, social media can be heavily harmful to the mental health. This involves a huge reliance on social media as a source that can adversely affect well-being. Some people on the internet can bully and harass others anonymously, which can cause severe issues that might eventually lead to depression. For instance, the younger population tends to post short videos or photos of themselves or their lives on media, which may become a reason to offence person judging by their looks. As a consequence, people may be reluctant to go somewhere where they think they can be harassed because of their looks.
Furthermore, many people like to express their independent opinions on media, which can consequently be used against them as a motive to disriminate against one another. As a result, a teenager who is susceptible to offensive words may struggle with expressing their opinions in later life. Personally, I believe that people are right by using social media as a communication network, which can connect many people from around the world based on their interests. That being said, the younger population has to be careful with the use of social media, as it can be detrimental to their mental health, and they also have to be confident enough and not pay attention to others offensive comments.
