Some individuals assume that social media affects young people’s communication skills negatively, while others assert it is rather helpful for the young generation to communicate more effectively. Personally, I believe it is highly beneficial due to its independence from distance and for its time-effectiveness. This essay discusses both views.
Some people may consider social media detrimental for communication skills because of the reason that social media gives people an opportunity so they will not have to have an face-to-face communication. To illustrate, as social media platforms such as Tiktok, Instagram, and Facebook becomes natural way of communication, the young people will only have online conversation. This significantly slow down the development of communication skills in young generation as they will not spend as much as time as previous generation.
Despite the potential drawback, the importance of social media in communication cannot be ignored. Social media is time-efficient and not limited by distance. It is highly beneficial for adolescents when they are separated by distance and cannot have real-life conversation. For instance, social media chats in Instagram and Whatsapp is widely used among people who live in different countries and cities. Another advantage is its time-efficiency. Social media facilitates the process of communication among teenagers in a various situations. For example, during the big events in community places or colleges where students’ schedule is packed up by a variety of tasks, social media is the most optimal option to spend as much as less time for face-to-face conversation. Thus, social media not only closures the gap between young people, it also help them to use their time effectively.
In conclusion, even though some people believe that social media separate young people from each other, I believe it is a magnificent tool in modern-day as it helps people to communicate with each other from distance and save up as much as time.
