In recent years, renting goods and services has become increasingly common, and many people prefer this option to purchasing things outright. I largely agree with this trend because renting can reduce financial pressure and provide greater flexibility, particularly when expensive items are only needed for a limited period.
One major reason why people choose to rent is that it can reduce financial pressure. Purchasing expensive items such as cars, houses, furniture or electronic devices requires a considerable amount of money. In contrast, renting allows people to use these products without paying their full price. This is particularly beneficial for young people and those with limited incomes. For example, a university student who needs a laptop for only one year may find it more sensible to rent one rather than purchase an expensive model. Therefore, renting can make useful products more affordable and accessible.
Another advantage is the greater flexibility that renting provides. People’s needs often change, meaning that owning certain items may not always be practical. For instance, someone who moves to another city for a temporary job may prefer to rent a house and furniture rather than buy them. Similarly, people can rent cars when travelling instead of purchasing a vehicle that they may rarely use. As a result, renting allows individuals to avoid long term commitments and choose products according to their current needs.
However, renting does have some disadvantages. Over a long period, the total cost of renting an item may become higher than the cost of buying it. In addition, renters usually have less control over the products they use and may have to follow certain rules set by the owner or company. For example, a person renting a house may not be allowed to make major changes to the property. Nevertheless, these disadvantages are less significant when an item is required only temporarily.
In conclusion, I largely agree that renting is preferable to owning in many situations. Although buying can be more economical in the long term and gives people greater control, renting offers financial flexibility, affordability and convenience. Therefore, it is a practical choice when people need expensive products for a limited period.
