In today’s digital area, an increasing number of people like to share everything online, including their private details, such as home address and phone numbers for a variety reasons. In my opinion, despite presenting certain drawbacks, this trend shows a positive evolution in our digital society.
On the one hand, many people believed this trend is heightened risk of privacy breaches and identity theft. Putting personal information on social media might create opportunity for cybercriminal to exploit such data. For example, the 2016 incident in Vietnam, where the personal information of 50 million Vietnamese citizen was allegedly leaked online, including sensitive details like name, address, and identity card numbers. Moreover, revealing too much personal information on social media or websites, can lead data misuse by companies. Companies might exploit the details of each person for purposes beyond the original intent, such as invasive advertising or selling data to the third parties without consent.
On the other hand, the digitization of personal information offers more considerable benefits. One of these is the enhanced convenience of everyday transactions and communications. For instance, the rise of online banking in Vietnam, with platforms such as Vietcombank and Techcombank, has transformed how Vietnamese individuals manage their finances, enabling instant transfers and bill payments without using cashes. Additionally, social network sites, such as Zalo and Facebook, have overcome geographical barriers, allowing people to maintain and develop relationships irrespective of their physical location. These benefits not only simplify logistical aspects of life but also enrich social interactions, illustrating the positive aspects of sharing personal information online.
In conclusion, while sharing personal details online carries certain risks, particularly highlighted by the Vietnamese example of data breaches, I am convinced that the overall impact of this trend is overwhelmingly positive. It represents a significant leap towards making daily routine more efficient and enhancing social connections, encapsulating the essence of this digital evolution as a beneficial step in leveraging technology to improve our lives.
