Positive And Negative

Band 8+: Many people put their personal information online (address, telephone number, and so on) for purposes such as signing up for social networks or online banking. Is this a positive or negative development?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays, many people put their personal information online for purposes such as signing up for social networks or online banking. From my perspective, this is a negative development due to its inconveniences in online registration and the vulnerabilities to online threats.

First and foremost, the absence of direct consultation during the online registration process can pose significant inconveniences. Individuals are often required to independently navigate through various platforms with complex requirements and procedures. This independent research and understanding of the necessary information can be challenging, especially for those who are not tech-savvy. For example, many websites require users to verify their identity through complex procedures, such as CAPTCHA tests, which can be confusing and frustrating. This inconvenience highlights one of the major downsides of online registration.

Moreover, sharing personal information online poses substantial security risks. The digital landscape is vulnerable to scammers and hackers, who can easily exploit vulnerabilities to perpetrate acts of financial fraud and identity theft. For example, hackers may pretend to be friends of the victims, borrowing money, but in reality, stealing from their bank accounts. In Vietnam, numerous individuals have fallen victim to scams because their personal information was stolen from online platforms. These incidents underscore the dangers of posting sensitive details online and highlight the potential for significant financial harm.

In conclusion, while registering for social networks or banking services online has become widespread, I believe it is a negative development due to the high risks involved. The potential for inconvenience and security breaches makes this trend more harmful than beneficial.
