It is believed that a lot of people work overtime and have limited time for their pastime activities. While this can be triggered due to several factors, I deem it entirely disadvantageous.
It is the increased competition in workplaces that compels people to overwork. Today, as a result, people need to work for longer hours than those in the past. For instance, in previous decades, when artificial intelligence had not yet been developed, there were plenty of jobs available for every person and they didn’t have to compete with each other on a daily basis. All they needed was patience and time to be promoted, yet nowadays, after graduating from university, people need to wait a long time to secure employment, because companies are now becoming more automated and relying more on technology than human labor. Therefore, when given the chance, people focus more on their work rather than hobbies.
Turning to whether it is a positive or negative, I consider it to be the latter, as excessive work and limited rest causes burnout. For example, seldom do they take a rest, they end up feeling sluggish, and this tiredness is neither beneficial to a person nor to their employers, as they may beam their lethargy to other counterparts. However, If they have a healthy work-life balance, they are likely to become more productive and contribute to the growth of their workplace. Businessmen are an excellent example of this: every time they complete all their tasks, they go on vocations. During these vocations, they can acquire new insights and knowledge that can be fruitful later when they start a new business.
In conclusion, now, when the reasons are obvious, I believe that devoting one’s life solely to work does not bring significant advantages.
