Nowadays, differences between the younger and the older generation are inevitable. These differences are mainly caused by changes in technology, education, and social environments. In this essay I will examine the main reasons for these differences and their broader effect.
One major reason for the differences between generations is the widespread use of technology and social media. Gen Z has grown up surrounded by smartphones, social media, and instant information. This affects the communication between the two parties. Younger people often prefer communicating through social media and messaging apps, whereas older generations tend to favor face-to-face conversations and direct interaction. For example, young people often use TikTok, WhatsApp, and Instagram to communicate with friends and obtain information, while older people may prefer face-to-face conversations while older people may prefer traditional ways of doing things like talking face to face. Consequently, different communication habits cab sometimes lead to misunderstandings between younger generation and older generation. Therefore, the technological enviorment in whoch Gen Z has grown up is a significant factor contributing to the generation gap.
Another reason for the differences between the two-side generation is changing social values and attitudes. New generations tend to value flexibility, personal fulfillment, and work-life balance. As a result, these differences can cause family disagreements and create a wider gap between both generations. Older parents may expect their children to have stable office jobs, while younger people may prefer flexible freelance work. For instance, senior citizens prioritize stable employment and financial security. Young adults, however, choose freelance as their job instead of working in an office. Thus, changing social values can create tension between younger people and their parents or grandparents.
In conclusion, conflicts between generations are difficult to avoid because of differences in technology, social media, values, and attitudes. Therefore, both generations should improve their communication and understanding to reduce these differences.
