As a common feeling while initially going through the gate of the university, students tend to express confusion due to the new study curriculum. Although some of them were satisfied with its challenges, numerous pupils found it substantially difficult to study when they were in highschool. This essay attempts to shed light on the underlying reasons behind this phenomenon before proposing some viable solutions to alleviate it.

This negative emotion of students toward the study process in colleges can be traced to two pivotal factors. The primary reason is that the studying schedule in universities are significantly divergent with the lower level of education. While the schools permit students to follow the fixed studying schedule on a daily basis, the alumni play an active role in contributing their upclass times. It fosters students to enhance time management ability to establish suitable periods of studying within adapting study-life balance skills. Additionally, in highschool, practical activities in classes are only required for paper-based exercises or basic presentations for specific situations. Meanwhile, university students have to solve reality cases based on academically specialized knowledge volume, make the flexible combination between observing and practising in all the processes to complete their final tests after the courses. As a result, the substantial difference of class period and studying requirement between schools and colleges are vital reasons for students to struggle with studies.

Granted, there are several solutions for this phenomenon. For the individual aspect, students have no choice but mentally prepare for the huge changes as there are more challenges while facing professional knowledge; fostering soft skills include teamwork, time management, searching legitimate information,… or even accessing an internship in suitable companies. Peer pressure is escalating while students are currently adapting to more technology needs in studying, so that they have to learn outside the books more. For the university, support and motivation are crucial programs that can boost the energy of freshers. For example, colleges can establish an organization day where the students can experience study flow and raise questions about the advice that they can learn from the juniors – who used to study in these universities. Moreover, for contributing to an effective learning status, the colleges have to establish a curriculum from basic to advanced, not only to be advantageous to study flow but students can also follow the academic knowledge in the efficient way.

In conclusion, the challenges students face in university stem from differences in study schedules and academic demands compared to high school. To overcome these difficulties, students should develop essential skills like time management and independent learning, while universities can offer mentorship programs and structured curricula. As a result, with combined efforts, students can adapt more smoothly and improve their academic performance and not be confused about the harder level of university’s curriculum.
