As funding for postgraduate research is limited, there is an argument that the government financial support should be allocated to scientific research, rather than less useful research. While i agree that scientific research requires authority’s financial support, it is essential to allocate resources to researches in fields beyond the science, such as arts and humanities.
An important reason to focus government funding on scientific research is the potential for significant societal advantages. With adequate financial backing from the government, there can be seen a surge in innovative advancements to energy and environment issues.Sufficient budget will aid in attracting more professional scientific researchers, and enable them to procure advanced equipment and foster collaboration and coordination in the field. This support is crucial for making breakthroughs in energy technology and addressing environmental challenges. For instance, studies on renewable energy technologies can reduce dependence on non-renewable energy sources and lower carbon dioxide emissions, thereby helping combat climate change.
On the other hand, besides the scientific research, the government should also provide financial support for other realms. The emphasis solely on scientific studies fails to acknowledge the significance of non-scientific fields, such as humanities. Understanding intricate societal phenomenon, cultural changes and human behaviors is greatly facilitated by research in the humanities. For example, research in the Sociology of Education can provide insights into equal rights to education. if the country invest a lot on such aspects, it will be more possible for students from deprived backgrounds to access to school, thus promote the educational equality and increase the overall literacy.
To conclude, the scientific research does play a crucial role in promoting the economic growth and country development. Nevertheless, the government budget should not totally spend on such area, it should consider the functions that may have a long-term benefit in the future such as education.
