Nowadays, health has become a top priority in many countries, with obesity being a major concern due to individuals’ lifestyles. I completely disagree with the notion that increasing the cost of junk food is the solution to this issue. There are other options, such as raising public awareness, which would be a more effective measure.
Being overweight has always been a significant concern, especially in developed countries, where obesity and fast food consumption are particularly prevalent among the elite. Raising the prices of unhealthy food may not impact this demographic at all. In fact, such a change could affect the revenue of food companies. For instance, in the United States, a large proportion of obese individuals belongs to the upper class, and despite the high prices of these foods, the obesity rate has consistently risen.
However, there are other and easier measures that the government and school authorities could adopt. The first initiative should focus on educating students. If awareness is cultivated among future generations, there could be a drastic change, as healthy choices would become a habit. This can be achieved with the help of school authorities by organizing boot camps and providing opportunities for sports participation. Additionally, the government could arrange campaigns to educate the public about the effects of obesity and offer free health checkups.
In conclusion, I believe that instead of concentrating solely on increasing the prices of fast food, we should focus more on educating the public about the adverse effects of being overweight. This can be effectively accomplished with the support of the government.
