It is increasingly common for people to purchase goods online rather than in ordinary shops. While this new trend can offer several significant benefits to the society, in my view, it is more likely to be detrimental overall.
There are several benefits of online shopping. One of the primary advantages is convenience. When people buy products online, they can save a considerable amount of money and time at the same time, as they do not need to go to the supermarkets or spending a lot of time by just commuting there. Internet-based platforms such as Wildberries or AliBaba can offer a great flexibility to people since they can purchase things from their home, especially in hot days. This can, in turn, result in saved time and money, and individuals also spend these savings to their other important expenses like utility bills or food. Moreover, when people do online shopping, they have access to a wider variety of different products. Most of the time, individuals might not find products which they want from local supermarkets or small shops, so it is very easy to find anyting from online markets. As a result of this, people do not face any difficulties when they purchase goods online.
Despite the benefits described above, I would argue that this new trend comes with its fair share of serious problems. Chief among them is that people may become far lazier compared to the past. That is to say, nowadays, people are geting used to sedintary lifestyle in which they stand for longer hours at offices or houses. If people even do not go to supermarkets, they might have some serious health issues because of the lack of physical activities: heart diseases, diabetes, and obesity, which can have significant negative effects on their overall well-being. Another pressing issue is advertising. This can negatively affect people’s psychologocial behaviour easily simply because many individuals are not aware very well about the advertisement tricks. Consequently, they may fall for these tricks and lose their a considerable amount of money unintentionally.
In conclusion, although I acknowledge the possible advantages of online shopping, especially in terms of convenience and greater access to the products , I remain convinced that its overall impact is more likely to be harmful for the reasons stated above.
