Positive And Negative

Band 7+: More and more people nowadays visit well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place. Why do you think this is happening? Is it a positive or a negative trend?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s world, people often flock to various tourist and historical sites primarily to take pictures of themselves, rather than to appreciate the true beauty of nature and history. I firmly believe that this is a negative trend.

One of the main reasons for this behavior is the rise of social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok. Many individuals visit tourist attractions primarily to showcase their experiences on social media by posting selfies, vlogs, and videos. They seem less interested in exploring the actual beauty of nature or understanding the historical significance of these locations, which leads to a lack of respect for such sites. Instead, they treat these stunning places merely as backdrops for their photos.

In my opinion, this trend is highly detrimental. It diminishes the true value of cultural and educational travel. It is ironic that, rather than learning about historical landmarks and enjoying the natural beauty of these places, people are more focused on social media and obtaining the perfect picture. Additionally, they disrupt the experience for other visitors who genuinely wish to explore and learn about the rich history of these locations by creating crowds and noise. For example, the Golden Temple in India is one of the most important historical sites, attracting visitors from around the world. However, instead of appreciating its beauty, many people simply stand in front of the temple to take pictures.

In conclusion, the growing tendency to prioritize photographs over authentic experiences is largely driven by the influence of social media.
