One of the most conspicuous trends of today’s globalized world is the ever-changing trend of fashion in clothing. In today’s world, style and fashion in garments is diversifying at a a pace which is quite hard to keep up with. It has both positive and negative sides. However, in my opinion, it is inclined towards a negative trend. I will throw a light upon the rationales behind it in the ensuing paragraphs.
First and foremost, let me commence by saying that the biggest disadvantage that should be given attention is the amounts of money that people are spending on clothes to keep up with the latest fashion. Not only adults but even teenagers are into this transforming world of fashion, going out of their way to stay up to date the upcoming fashion sense. For instance, people aged from 15 to 21 years old are paying huge amounts of cash to buy branded clothes and accessories just to gain a massive fan following on social media platforms like Instagram. This in turn may have an adverse impact on their finances.
Moreover, another demerit that heavily outweighs the merits here is the impact it has on the environment. The fast fashion demands use of new materials and numerous chemicals to create something extraordinary. A variety of dyes and chemicals are used in the manufacturing of garments which result in the enormous damage of the environment due the textile waste generated during the process. This in turn contributes to the causes of global warming hence causing environmental damage.
In conclusion, agglomerating all the points elaborated above, it can be recapitulated that despite of having many pros and cons of fashionable apparels, the shortcomings of fashion are too dire to avoid. As it has plenty of pitfalls, like contributing to environmental damage, exploitation of workers and cultural homogenization.
