Many students are giving a gap between graduating from high school and enrolling in university. In this essay, I will explain why the advantages overshadow the drawbacks.
On the one hand, taking time off before enrolling in university could pose two challenges to students. Firstly, if the gap the students take is too long, they might lose their sense of studying and doing assignments, which will make them harder to adapt when entering university. To illustrate, they might feel hard as they do not arrange any schedule with their school activities and tasks during the time off. Therefore, when they enter university, they might need more time to have that routine back. Secondly, taking time off before entering university could mean that they are older than the other freshman students. Sometimes, this can be challenging as they might need to adapt and fit in with the youngest so they can have peers in university.
On the other hand, despite these drawbacks, I would argue that there are more benefits to this trend. Firstly, the students can explore their interest toward something. They can know what they like and find their dream professions, which can boost them to make plans to achieve that. As a result, they will take the major that is aligned with their dream occupation. Thus, they will enjoy college life. Secondly, they can enhance their experience before entering college as they have the opportunity to work, whether as a freelancer, an intern, a part-timer, or even a full-timer. The output of this will develop both their hard and soft skills. Hence, these skills are useful to help their studies and do assignments, which can make them gain a greater score.
In conclusion, while taking time off before entering university might affect their sense of studying and doing assignments, and they have to fit in with the youngest to have peers, I believe that the students can explore more of their interests and enhance their experience before entering college. Therefore, the demerits are eclipsed by the merits.
