The integration of artificial intelligence into daily tasks, both for private and public environments has become an inevitable trend in modern society. Despite the employment loss, I strongly opine that this is a beneficial development due to the boost of working performance and workforce safety.
One foremost benefit of this phenomenon is the enhancement of productivity. Undoubtedly, robots are currently capable of performing repetitive and high-intensive tasks faster, compared with humans. A prime illustration, autonomous robots in the manufacturing industries, which can assemble products at an unmatched speed, reducing production times and boosting the outputs. Thus, not only does it maximize the company’s profits, but it also improves the affordability and availability of goods for consumers.
Another conspicuous merit is deeply linked to the safety in working environment. In exploitation industries such as mining, construction or even radiation, robots are increasingly being used to perform dangerous missions, reducing the risk of injuries and death for human workers. For instance, well-trained machines are being used to replace human employees to handle hazardous substances in factories. Therefore, this practice contributes to a significant improvement in workplace safety.
Nonetheless, the job displacement inflicted by relying on automated machinery is a valid concern. Since robots can perform multiple tasks in a short time, many workers, especially in low-skills industries may find themselve out of jobs. To demonstrate, the self-checkout system in supermarkets leads to the considerable loss of cashiers jobs, while the automated production lines have lessened the demand for manual labor. As a consequence, it exacerbates the unemployment rates, particularly in sectors where retraining workers is more challenging.
In conclusion, the increasing utilization of artificial intelligence for both personal and professional purposes, making it definitely a positive development overall. However, the reduction of occupations caused by this practice can not be ignored.
