Band 7+: Most high-level positions in companies are filled by men even though the workforce in many developed countries is more than 50 per cent female. Companies should be required to allocate a certain percentage of these positions to women. To what extent do you agree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is argued that the corporations should give a special quota for women who work on the same level as men. This essay agrees with the statement, as such this solution could help to fight gender inequality as well as give women the opportunity to offer innovative ideas.

If a woman takes the same position at work as men, the question about gender disparity will diminish. This is because women have equal opportunities, skills, and knowledge as men; consequently, it would be fair to introduce women to high-ranking jobs. Hence, the level of social discontent will be reduced, and the inequalities between women and men will be significantly decreased. For example, women in high positions perform just as well as men.

Another issue to take into consideration is that women can bring innovative ideas to the companies. The female perspective on various matters may differ from the male perspective. Thus, it can lead to better decisions and results. For instance, Sheryl Sandberg holds a high position at Facebook, and thanks to her efforts, the company has realised many successful projects.

However, there is an opinion that women will be hired for high positions because of their appearance and the fact that they are female, overlooking their skills and abilities. Although women could get special quotas without proving their skills, I take the view that they would not be able to last long in high positions without any experience.

In conclusion, I believe that women should be given some of the top positions by companies, in light of the fact that this helps to reduce gender disparity and will give women the opportunity to contribute new ideas to the company’s affairs.
