Band 8+: Most people are not interested in how their food has been produced. They only care about how much it costs. How true is this statement? What influences people when they buy food?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is a common belief that people typically do not pay much attention to the processes behind the production of the food they buy, focusing solely on its price. However, I believe that this statement no longer reflects the lifestyle of people today. In modern society, individuals are increasingly concerned about the quality and freshness of the food they purchase.

People today are not like those in the past who primarily focused on finding affordable or cheap food, often overlooking how that food was produced. Nowadays, they are more health-conscious and understand that spending a little extra on carefully-made food can help them avoid health risks. This shift in mindset is largely due to rising concerns over health issues linked to the consumption of cheap, poorly-sourced food, which can have detrimental effects on their bodies. Recent surveys indicate that the rate of food poisoning cases, resulting from consuming unhygienic food, is on the rise. Consequently, many individuals prefer to buy products with clearly indicated origins and ensure hygienic production processes.

To choose food that is beneficial for their health, people often spend more time making informed decisions based on key criteria. In my view, the quality and freshness of food have a significant impact on consumers. Regarding food quality, many individuals seek meals that are nutritious, delicious, and hygienic. Choosing such food helps them mitigate health risks and provides them with the energy needed for work and study. Additionally, freshness is another critical factor that most people consider, especially with seafood and vegetables. Consumers are increasingly inclined to select fresh seafood and organic produce due to the essential nutrients and vitamins they provide. For instance, in Japan, many individuals consume seafood such as fish and octopus in a raw state, believing that eating fresh food allows them to retain nearly all the essential elements of the ingredients. As a result, they actively seek out shops or markets that offer fresh products.

In conclusion, modern individuals do not value low-priced food lacking in quality. Rather, they are willing to invest in nutritious and fresh food to enhance their physical health.
