Nowadays newspapers have an enormous impact on an individual’s life, with getting information and news more convenient and accessible. Although some people believe that this influence on society can be harmful, I believe that it is largely a positive trend due to the advantages associated with the opportunity to enable citizens to stay informed of crucial issues in the world.
One of the primary reasons newspapers exert a significant influence on people’s ideas and opinions is that they are widely regarded as credible sources of information. Unlike unverified content on social media, newspapers are typically produced by professional journalists who are expected to fact-check information before publication. As a result, readers tend to trust the information they receive and often use it to form opinions on political, economic and social issues. Furthermore, because newspapers reach a large audience and repeatedly cover particular topics, they have the power to shape public perception and direct attention towards matters considered important by society.
In addition, the media is an indispensable source for raising people’s awareness of pressing issues. It improves the safety of citizens by providing beneficial information about events that have happened. For instance, in Kazakhstan, after evidence regarding Saltanat Nukenova, who is a victim of intimate partner violence, the government provided more opportunities for the safety of women, especially in terms of victims of domestic violence.
In conclusion, newspapers have considerable influence on people’s opinions and ideas; therefore, I am inclined to believe that this is generally a positive development. They keep the public well-informed, promote awareness of important issues, and contribute to new developments and changes in society’s attitudes.
