This is an indisputable fact that the media and newspaper have had profound impact on the way people shape their outlooks. Although there are some disadvantages to this phenomenon such as violence exposure, the advantages of media, including a proving a link between people and governments as well as presenting instant information, outweigh its drawbacks. In the subsequent paragraphs I will expound on both views.
First and foremost, since the advent of newspaper, it has been acting as a custodian of the interest of general people by offering them a way to get through the politicians and authorities. Through this media, people gain a vivid perception of the country’s events and how governors are resolving the situation. It also presents a link, using which, opinions and voices of individuals can reach out to the rulers. What is more is that since people normally do not have the opportunity to meet elections’ candidates in person, media’s coverage of the data on runner is what shapes one’s judgment and newspaper is what aids them to make up their minds about before casting their vote
Additionally, as the influence of newspapers grew stronger, officials were facilitated to forewarn residents about incidents to come and alert them about future catastrophes and the public became more proactive. Moreover, with advancement and international spread of the newspaper and media, people are informed of global issues in an instance. Therefore, it is safe to say that the big planet earth has now turned into a global village, in which, the villagers are notified of one another’s problems immediately and rush to offer a helping hand to fellow humans. I believe Tokyo could be an excellent example. During 2000’s people of Tokyo were cautioned about a flood to rise in the upcoming days, consequently they managed to evacuate the city on time and escape the fatal disaster.
Admittedly, the newspaper has some downsides including overexposure of criminal and vulgar actions. Many people opine that long term effect of excessive publication of harsh news, eventually results in an escalating crime rate alongside with destructive behavior in children. Therefore, consumption of such contents should be in a moderate and cautious manner.
By way of conclusion, media has been playing a transformative role on the public and in comparison with the magnitude of merits that it has brough, its negative points are negligible.
