In modern times, advertisements that influence children have become a topic of discussion. Some people believe that some advertisements targeted children should be restricted due to their harmful impacts. In this essay, I am elaborating on reasons why advertisements that have a negative effect on children should be banned.
On the one hand, advertisements often encourage children to develop unhealthy eating habits. The reason for this is that many advertisements advertise fast food, sugary foods and soft drinks, which are seriously harmful to children’s health. Because children are not that mature, they are influenced by this without thinking about the consequences and develop poor eating habits. As a result, they face problems that lead to diseases such as obesity.
On the other hand, advertising targeting children can cause financial problems for parents. Children often demand to buy products they see in advertisements, such as toys. This causes stress for parents, especially in low-income families, and leads to conflicts in the family. Therefore, this may damage parent-children’s relationships.
Furthermore, without chalking off all the above-mentioned trends, it is undeniable that advertisements have positive effects on children. Some commercials are educational and help to promote tools that will help children succeed in their studies, such as books and useful apps. Thereby, when advertisements are designed ethically, they can support children’s development and well- being.
In conclusion, although advertisements can provoke useful skills and habits in children, their negative effects on physical and mental health are more serious. I completely agree that such advertisements should be strictly controlled and even banned.
