Band 9: Nowadays eating habits of people around the word are changing, causing many health problems including obesity. Why do people tend to eat so badly? What can be done to improve eating habits?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In recent years, eating habits around the world have undergone significant changes, often for the worse. This shift has contributed to various health issues, with obesity becoming increasingly prevalent. Several factors explain why people are making poor dietary choices, but fortunately, there are effective strategies that can help reverse this trend.

One major reason people eat poorly is the fast-paced nature of modern life. With demanding work schedules and limited time, many individuals rely on fast food or ready-made meals, which are typically high in calories, sugar, and unhealthy fats. Additionally, the aggressive marketing of junk food, especially to children, plays a critical role in shaping unhealthy preferences from an early age. Furthermore, many people lack proper knowledge about nutrition and how to maintain a balanced diet.

To combat these issues, several measures can be implemented. Governments should introduce nutritional education programs in schools to teach children the importance of healthy eating from a young age. Public health campaigns can also raise awareness about the risks of poor diets and offer guidance on making better food choices. In addition, regulating the advertisement of unhealthy food, particularly on children’s media, can reduce its influence. Supporting local produce and making healthy food more affordable would also encourage people to eat more responsibly.

For example, in Japan, schoolchildren are provided with well-balanced meals and taught about nutrition as part of the school curriculum. This has contributed to one of the lowest childhood obesity rates in the world.

In conclusion, although modern lifestyles have led to a decline in healthy eating, there are clear and actionable solutions. By focusing on education, regulation, and access to nutritious food, society can encourage healthier eating habits and improve public health overall.
