It is often argued that people nowadays tend to buy ready-prepared meals instead of homemade ones for several reasons. While this might have many merits, several drawbacks could have resulted from it.
There is no doubt that the high rise in the cost of living forces both parents to go out for work. Therefore, due to the time shortage, guardians became unable to cook after work. Thus, fast food is considered a magic solution for this issue. Moreover, fast food is usually cheaper than home-prepared meals. In other words, a family could buy their lunch at a cost that is greatly lower than this in case they need to cook at home.
Purchasing previously prepared food might be advantageous in many aspects. Owing to the elevated tendency to buy such food, the government could impose taxes on these restaurants and shops. Therefore, the authorities often invest this money in improving the infrastructure, education and health system. Furthermore, these restaurants are participating in the job market by opening many opportunities for employment. For example, many young generations, especially university students are now working in many brand food outlets, such as KFC and Burger King.
Ready-to-eat food may have other demerits as it usually contains high quantities of salt, sugar and saturated fats. For this reason, it’s usually considered unhealthy and may cause several adverse effects on consumers such as heart diseases and obesity. In addition, these meals always miss many nutrients such as fibers and vitamins which could disrupt the digestion process and suppress the immune system.
By way of conclusion, several aspects could push people to buy fast food in terms of money and time efficacy. While ready meals might have several positives such as imposing tax and creating job opportunities, it has many negatives including health problems and malnutrition.
