Stories related to written language are never far from the front pages and collective consciousness. The most debated question has derived from the growing usage of casual languages among the present generations in comparison to those in the past. In my opinion, this phenomenon can be attributed to several elements and pose lots of challenges to personal growth.
On the one hand, there are some reasons as to why people, in this day and age, tend to use more colloquialism than those in the past. The most striking point is the growing access to casual written languages on social media. In this modernized world where humans take priority over the demand of convenience, social networking can offer many short and simple words, which are less time-consuming and more usable for daily practices. This dominance of informal writing can promote reluctance among users to make use of of the formal ones. Another reason is about the utility in diverse means of communication that informal languages can bestow. It is because casual languages contain slangs and idioms, which can reduce tensions and controversy during virtual connections or even face-to-face meetings. Thus, individuals will become more independent to denote their ideas and emotions fully and spontaneously.
On the other hand, the prevalence of informal writing can result in two critical drawbacks. The initial impact is about to adversely affect academic performances of students. Since students, nowadays, lack the knowledge and insights of writing in the formal manner, they are prone to add slangs and abbreviated words in their assignments which require a high level of formality and standardized spelling. As the result, students cannot achieve their targeted score. Furthermore, informal language may hinder individuals from acquiring many employment opportunities in the long run. The proliferation of spontaneous languages deteriorates the proficiency of employees to complete a business correspondence and accordingly, they will lose their prestige in working and fail to gain recognition from the company.
In conclusion, with more presence of the social network sites, it is inevitable to get access to a plenty of informal languages. Despites the comfortable self-expression, overusing them can lead to lower achievements and career prospects.
