Receiving everything instantly has become desirable for a vast number of individuals, as today’s technologically-driven environment demands this. Despite this trend’s growing popularity, I strongly believe that it is negative.
Among numerous reasons, technological advancement is the primary one why people expect instant results. Fierce competition among large multinational corporations has contributed to anything that is digital being more convenient and immediate. For example, most daily activities, such as shopping, ordering food delivery and even finding information on the internet or via artificial intelligence, can already be done in a short time. Modern lifestyles are also becoming hectic, with people juggling work, education and social commitments. The constant pressure to save time encourages them to embrace technology even faster and subsequently prioritize quick outcomes.
This development entails serious consequences. One is the lack of patience, a valuable trait for every individual. People reliant on instant gratification are likely to become non-tolerant of achieving long-term goals, such as building a career or learning a new skill. For instance, students reliant on fast answers are unlikely to have strong critical thinking and conduct a research study. On a social level, the demand for speed may reduce quality and increase environmental waste, as companies are going to compete to deliver goods quicker, often sacrificing the sustainability of their products and worker welfare.
In conclusion, technology is the main contributor to the trend where people are anticipating anything to be done in a short time. Since there are some detrimental consequences of this, I view it as adverse for people.
