In our current world, an increasing amount of people demand fast services, deliveries, tasks fulfillments that come at an instant rate. This is a harmful development caused by a variety of factors, namely a change in lifestyle and the content that we see online.
Over the years, our life has evolved to become much more demanding and strenuous. Students are overloaded with assignments, workers are constantly overdoing themselves, leading to a lifestyle that is always rushed and tense. Furthermore, the introduction of short dopamine rewards such as reels, videos, moments have been gnawing at our attention span. Various media platforms such as Tiktok, Facebook, and Instagram deliberately design their content to be as addicting and captivating as possible, luring us into a trap of addiction. The rushed lifestyle, combined with our diminishing attention span, made waiting a much more challenging task than before.
This has been an extremely negative change in our world. People lose their patience, and forgot the slow, relaxed ways of life they used to practice. When things aren’t done instantly in their way, they easily get frustrated and antsy, which in turns lead to aggression and stress. Additionally, when everyone is rushing to get their tasks done, the quality of such tasks may significantly decrease. People prioritize speed over accuracy and precision, leading to their work hastily done with little to no careful checkups.
To summarize, the increasing demand for instant things is caused mainly by a stressful way of life and an outbreak of fast content. That said, this is a detrimental development that sparks frustration and stress, harming our mental health both while lowering our work quality.
