Band 7+: Nowadays parents are hitting their children less and less. Do you think that this has led to an ill-mannered generation?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Nowadays many parents do not hit their children as much as in the past. Some people think this is the reason why young people are badly behaved. In my opinion, I do not agree with this idea, because there are other reasons for bad behaviour.

Firstly, hitting children does not teach them to be polite. When a child is hit, he feels afraid, but he does not understand why his behaviour is wrong. For example, a boy who is beaten for lying may just learn to lie better so his parents don’t find out. Also, children who are hit can become angry and aggressive, so they may be more rude to other people.

Secondly, there are better ways to teach good manners. Parents can talk to their children and explain what is right and wrong. They can also give punishments like no phone or no games for one day. These methods are good because the child learns from his mistake and the relationship with parents stays strong. In addition, parents should be a good example, because children copy what they see at home.

However, it is true that some young people today are rude. I think the main reasons are the internet and busy parents. Children spend a lot of time on social media and watch videos with bad language, and many parents work long hours so they don’t have time to teach their children manners.

In conclusion, I believe that less hitting has not made the new generation ill-mannered. Parents should use communication and be a good role model, and they should spend more time with their children.
