Nowadays some people think that plastic cards are more popular than banknotes. Credit and debit cards are easy to use and if you lose your wallet you always have access to your money through your bank. However, there is a risk of cybercrimes and earth pollution because of plastic.
On the one hand, plastic cards are convenient to carry with you. A huge pack of cash takes a lot of place, while cards can be placed in your pocket or even in your phone app. For example, many people use cardholders to carry their cards around and pay instantly. It is much faster than counting your banknotes or coins. In addition, it is safer to use bank cards because there is a less risk of theft. If you lose your credit or debit card you can just lock all operations that might happen. As a result, your money will be saved and not stolen by someone.
On the other hand, plastic cards tend to pollute the Earth. Credit cards have an expiration date, so after they become useless. Many people do not recycle their cards and throw them away on the streets. Plastic is a very slow-degrading material. So that is why cards lead to pollution, while banknotes can be used many times and because they are made of paper it is easier for them to degrade. One more thing to mention is a high risk of cybercrimes. There is an enormous number of hackers who try to steal other people’s money. Mostly, their main victim is the elderly because it is easier to control them. Thieves know a lot about manipulation and how to get money from the others.
In conclusion, even though plastic cards have a risk of theft or pollution, they are still the most convenient way of payment nowadays because you have all your money on a small card.
