In the recent years, online education has become more popular especially after the corona pandemic and I believe it comes with both advantages as well as some drawbacks. The primary benefit is flexibility to learn from anywhere and the disadvantage is the lack of face-to-face interactions.
One of the biggest advantages of online mode of education is the ease of access it offers. Students can attend or listen to lectures from anywhere and at any time, which makes the learning convenient and accessible. On top of that, people can save money on transportation and sometimes even accommodation fees. Individuals also have access to a wide range of resources that are available on the internet. Unlike traditional classrooms, where students depend on a teacher’s notes or textbooks, online platforms offer options to recorded class sessions. This makes the learning process more personalised because the students can revisit the content whenever they want. For example, I can attend or even complete an online course and certifications by just sitting in my bedroom.
However, there are some downsides also. The most obvious one is the lack of one-to-one interaction between the staffs and students. In offline classes, students can come up with questions spontaneously and engage in group discussions with their friends enhancing communication skills. On the other hand, online learning feels isolating because you are sitting infront of a screen alone. I also believe that it requires strong self-discipline to attend lectures online because not every student has the ability to manage their time in a effective manner. For example, many learners get distracted by social media or other apps if not monitored properly by their coordinators which in turn affects the quality of learning and time management.
To sum up, online education offers flexibility and a wide variety of resources but at the same time, it lacks personal engagement and requires a lot of self-control from the learners for good results.
