It is undeniable that in today’s society, playing sports is no longer an activity to improve health but a profitable income for both professional players and companies. Therefore, sports are now considered as a business. Acknowledging the reasons behind this trend, I believe that it is a positive development.
Admittedly, the increasing of sports competitions sometimes makes people overlook the core value of its. Sports are supposed to help individuals maintain and improve their overall health; however, the lucrative profits from sport games promote people to attend competitions indiscriminately. They tend to choose sports that provide high financial rewards such as football, basketball, tennis without concerning about their health condition. These sports often require a prolonged period of working and practicing, as a result, if individuals want to take part in those competitions, they have to practice relentlessly and unbalanced in a shorter period compared to other players. This can affect both their physical and mental health since it warrants highly strong health and resilient motivation. Moreover, the purpose of playing sports is determined by profit-driven motive, making people find every means to win the competition and become a famous athlete. This, in some cases, can even lead to negative and harmful method such as using prohibited drugs or bribery. In other words, sports are no longer considered as a way to improve health but to gain financial profits.
On the other hand, I firmly believe that the financial benefits of playing sports are beneficial in encouraging people to engage in sports and paving the way to develop future carrer. Specifically, the importance of money in life is undeniable since it allows people to cover their living expenses and meet their demands, so financial benefits play a crucial role in motivating individuals. For instance, in a competition, higher financial rewards encourage professional athletes through difficulties, enabling them to perform better to be the champion. Moreover, the benefits from sport games also help companies attract and retain talented athletes. People who have not played sports before are motivated to engage in playing sports, allowing them to explore their hidden talents and contributing to self-development. Individuals are supported to step out of their comfort zone, while enhancing soft skills such as teamwork or communication. Meanwhile, companies take advantages of those profits to invest more in their facilities, equipments and training, facilitating an open and supported environment for athletes.
In conclusion, despite some drawbacks of the financial benefits from sports, I firmly contend that those are pale in comparison to the advantages of playing sports in terms of companies’ development and players’ careers.
