Technology has significantly changed how people interact with each other in recent years. While some people believe that this shift have high level of advancement opportunities which allow people get contact with each other in a digital environment, others suggest that it is one of the reasons that make people’s relationships less valuable and more short-term than the real ones. In my opinion, it is a mixed development that has its own pros and cons.
First and foremost, technology’s impact has changed people making friends the way more than they possibly could in the past. It is because of rising the popularity of social media which helps people connect with each other in an easy way. Some platforms even made for making virtual and friends and finding your partners. Nevertheless, this opportunity is not always help you to find good people to have in your life. In social media, everything can be fake about one person and not everybody can recognize this in first glance. For example, a Japanese tourist travelled to Canada to meet her online friend and was murdered by that person. Additionally, subsequent investigations revealed that the individual was, in fact, a serial killer.
Secondly, digital progress also made a great shift the way people communicate in relationships. Especially during war condition, where it is really hard to meet your loved ones, technology makes it easier for you. Especially during wartime, global crises such as pandemics, or situations involving geographical separation, technology plays a crucial role in maintaining human connection. It enables individuals to overcome physical barriers and preserve emotional bonds through various digital platforms. To illustrate this, according to research, older adults maintained social connectedness through digital communication technology during the COVID-19 pandemic, which helped mitigate feelings of isolation and anxiety.
To sum up, technology has clearly transformed the way people form and maintain relationships today. However, the impact, whether beneficial or harmful, largely depends on how it is utilized.
