A paramount concern of many activists around the globe is that the Earth population is producing enormous amount of garbage, such as food, general, plastic and others. What maybe behind that phenomenon and do we have a chance to lessen it.
At first, our society came to this situation because we are convinced that consuming goods is the purpose of their lives. The higher class, the more expensive the assortment of goods one may afford, the more respectful one’s lifestyle is seen. The huge advertisement industry has only one goal, to make people buy more, as often as possible. Many examples may be given in this regard, such as new car model, replacing one another every 3 years, new very slightly changed phones, emerging on the market annually. The fashion industry is the bright example of this tendency too.
The ability of western governments to prevent, or even limit such kind of consumerism is dagerously close to undermining the economy model these countries have. One of the main indicators of the economic growth is, how much people will estimately buy in the next time period. So the only option the world leaders have to alleviate the consequences of the current system is, to somehow reverse the values their citizens were tought for generations. Maybe, the option here is to impress the seriousness of the aftermaths if current economic model of the excessive consumption is not brought to an end.
Thirdly, the government ans the entire society have to work alongside to create entire industries with sole purpose of recycling, at least to a certain extent, of what can be. And devise harmless for the nature measures to deal with the sorts of garbage not treatable otherwise.
In conclusion, there is a major problem behind current situation with, literally, mountains of trash in the vicinities of big cities and in the oceans. For the most part, the blame for it lays on the system governments were relaying on since the Second World War. And the only way to deal with the problem is taking profound measures limiting the amount of garbage produced, as well as allocating money to recycle it.
