Obesity among Turkish schoolchildren saw a huge increase between 1990 and 2015. This essay will discuss the main causes of obesity, including increasing fast food consumption and the increase in the Turkish economy, which caused the GDP per capita rate to skyrocket. This essay will also suggest solutions to this problem, including balancing fast food consumption and going through a diet.
Turkish schoolchildren are getting more and more obese because they can afford to eat more. Between 1990 and 2015, Turkey saw an increase in its economy, which meant that people could buy more, including food. For example, GDP per capita in 1990 was around 7,500 dollars, whereas in 2015 it was higher than 15,000 dollars. This resulted in higher living standards, and the cost of food went down relatively.
Maintaining a fast food consumption balance and going through a diet if you can’t keep that balance is crucial for obesity. Good taste makes people often disregard the negative side of fast food, getting unhealthy and fat. That’s why it is important for fathers and mothers to limit their children’s fast food consumption. For example, parents can give fast food as a reward to their children every now and then. Therefore, it is important for parents to limit their child’s consumption, not entirely remove it. In conclusion, Turkish schoolchildren nowadays tend to eat more fast food. This essay discussed how obesity can be caused by high living standards and increasing fast food consumption. This essay suggested two solutions for this: maintaining a good balance of fast food consumption and getting a diet program if you can’t.
