Nowadays, many people believe that international sports competitions, like the Olympic Games, promote world peace. Others think that they are the cause of more conflict and tension between governments. In my opinion, international sports is a good way to build good relationships between countries because these events make the whole world watch honest and hard-working athletes who represent their homelands.
On the one hand, many people say that international sports events can increase political tensions between nations. This is because these competitions often become a place for political disagreement, where countries want to show their superiority. When athletes from rival countries compete, the desire to win can lead to aggressive behavior both on the field and among fans. For example, during football matches between countries with difficult historical relationships, clashes between fans frequently happen. Therefore, it is understandable why some people view these events as a source of conflict instead unity.
On the other hand, I agree with those who believe that global tournaments bring people together. The main reason for this is that sports provides a neutral ground where nations can communicate peacefully, regardless of their political differences. When world watches the Olympic Games, the focus shifts from politics to human achievement and fair play. For example, during the opening ceremonies, athletes from all over the world march together, and this shows global friendship. So, these events create a sense of community, which is why I find this view more convincing.
In conclusion, although international sports competitions can sometimes cause temporary tension and disagreement between countries, I believe that they play a positive role in world peace. They allow people to forget about political conflicts and celebrate hard work and fair competition together.
