No doubt traveling to foreign countries is advantageous at so many levels. There are personal, social, and economic benefits to moving to other countries, whether it is for studying, working, or even migration. In this essay, I will explore some of the benefits associated with traveling abroad.
Firstly, the magnitude of exploring other cultures in person reflects on one’s mind. In other words, the more one becomes exposed to diversity, the more he/she becomes open-minded. Despite the risk of losing one’s identity and facing cultural shocks, scientific research emphasizes the importance of exploring other traditions by visiting different countries. This impact appears in strengthening the sense of humanity, that we are all human beings despite any differences, which is the basis for sympathy and understanding. Also, knowing people from different backgrounds, personally, deconstructing stereotypes and prior thoughts about others.
This is why the vast majority of universities all over the world try to diversify their environment due to the great impact of this on their students. What is more, this diverse atmosphere brings academic benefits, when scholars from different parts of the globe get to gather to conduct research and everyone brings a different solution according to their own experiences. This could lead to innovative solutions in less time and with less effort, so diversifying the academic or work institutions is an effective way to raise innovation and cut down costs.
to sum up, exposure to diversity could lead to cultural shock and confusion. However, the advantages, such as widening one’s horizons and inducing innovation, far outweigh the disadvantages. In my view, schools and universities, also workplaces must continue to promote diversity in their environments.
