Nowadays, the majority of people often use online translation services to find the meaning of unknown foreign words. Some individuals consider using translation applications a handy solution to their language barriers, while others believe that overconsuming of these services can trigger degradation of memorizing skills and other flaws. Looking from my perspective, the advantages totally outweigh their drawbacks, but still there are some significant pitfalls.
On the one hand, a key factor to take into consideration is that web-based translation tools offer immeasurably beneficial instant access to any translation. Granted, those services permit crucial communication, since they let us find the meanings of the unknown words to answer somebody at the moment. To illustrate, recently, trying to check into the hotel I was speaking with a person, who did not understand English, so I used translation applications to specify some information about the room. Accordingly, these language tools provide flexibility and sophistication in various life situations.
In contrast, it is often argued that those applications provide a negative impact on memorizing new words by students. One remembers fresh vocabulary more effectively when he does not use such instant translation tools. For instance, I noticed the growth of my own active-used word bank after commencing searching for meanings and explanation of the words, instead of raw translation. Thus, overconsuming of language translation apps may lead to some extra challenges in learning a foreign language.
Ultimately, taking all factors into account, I am of the opinion that the positive aspects still clearly outweigh the drawbacks, however, a person ought to recognize that having the use of instant translation services may result in slowing down the educational process.
