It is argued that it is reasonable for workers to retain their entire salaries without the obligation to pay any taxes. From my perspective, I totally disagree with this statement, as taxes not only help to enhance economic growth but also develop social welfare programs.
Firstly, one of the primary purposes of taxation is to generate revenue for governments to promote and foster economic growth through the educational system. Since citizens pay taxes, governments can have funds to establish public schools. Not only does this improve the living standards of people, but it can also ensure that every individual has access to necessary amenities for their personal growth, regardless of their social position. For instance, taxes fund public schools, providing potential opportunities for children, even those coming from low-income families, to acquire essential knowledge that can contribute to improving their future prospects and thereby possibly developing a qualified workforce for the economy. In contrast, with the absence of taxation, these public services would not be possible, which in the long run may lead to a national economic downturn.
Secondly, another important area where tax revenue is used is in developing social welfare programs, which are crucial for increasing the quality of life of individuals, especially those who are vulnerable and disadvantaged. These programs, including unemployment benefits, disability support, and affordable housing initiatives, are essential for reducing poverty and improving social mobility. For example, social welfare programs can help disabled or elderly individuals effortlessly receive these social subsidies, which help them approach everyday basic facilities. In the absence of paying taxes, governments may struggle to fund these social welfare policies. This could have serious consequences for society, as the most vulnerable individuals and families may not have access to the amenities they need, thereby increasing poverty and social inequality.
In conclusion, while paying taxes is not a willing activity that citizens enjoy, it is essential to pay taxes so that these funds can provide substantial benefits for both the economy and society.
