The current generation is expected to have a longer life expectancy compared to elderly ones. I strongly believe that prolonged lifespan is a great achievement for people, as it can give a chance for having stronger family bonds, but it also can come with negative consequences too.
Nowadays, because of modern medicines and developed healthcare facilities people can live longer than their ancestors. The most vital positive implications of this phenomenon is that individuals can strengthen relationship with their households. It means, when people get older, they lose their energy to play leisure games or spending time with younger family members. However, if they age slower and have death later, youngsters such as their grandchildren can have more spending time together. For example, all around the world, about 40% of children, especially who were born later do not see their grandparents or cannot just remember them. Hence, longer lifespan ensures opportunity to teenagers and children not only spend their time with seniors, but also gain enough information from their experience. These advices can serve as a guideline, which helps to avoid making serious mistakes in youngsters’ future lifetimes.
On the other hand, it has own negative aspects too. One primary is that when people life longer, they want to delay retaining, which can lead to workforce imbalance. Precisely, young candidates, who need to work and provide their family with stable income have a higher possibility to stay ignored. As in many corporations, seniors are held in the highest regard and just dismissing them can be difficult for employers. However, hundreds if not thousands of students annually graduate the university and seek for job, which has already occupied by old employees. Depending on these factors, it is clear that there is the highest risk to increase quantity of unemployments.
Moreover, there are several individuals, who support the statement above. They consider that in elder ages people not always have the best quality of life. Seniors often struggle with chronic diseases such as diabetes and cancer, even in the worst case scenario they can become bedridden. Specifically, these all health related illnesses create not the best life conditions for seniors. Also, there is a likelihood that in this age, they even suffer from several mental problems too. Alzheimer’s, depression and feeling isolated can be the great examples, which can support the statement. Hence, life expectancy which prolongs 70-100 years are considered as a not the best period in older generations’ life.
In conclusion, it is obvious that long lifespan can provide more benefits toward family relationships, especially between grandparents and children. However, it can cause an extreme instability in workforce, which is detrimental for society. Secondly, people who live until 80 or 100 years old have a higher possibility of having various both mental and physical illnesses.
