It is argued that nowadays, people are experiencing an improved quality of life compared to those living in preceding decades. Even though it is undeniable that 21st-century people enjoy a higher life quality, I disagree that it will have positive effects on the environment.
On the one hand, I believe better life quality can harm the environment. In terms of air, in the 21st century, there are numerous power plants, factories and tremendous traffic volume, consuming lots of fossil fuels, thereby these non-renewable energy sources will be converted into harmful chemical substances such as CO2 and exhaust fumes, posing a serious threat to air quality. Another problem is habitat loss. This is because the destruction of trees will provide spaces for people to erect houses, which can severe people’s demands. However, this also means that it will destroy the habitat – the homes of animals and plants-, which can potentially drive them to the verge of extinction.
On the other hand, there are several compelling reasons why people are experiencing an improved quality of life. The first reason is the development in the healthcare sector. this is due to technological advances, which allow scientists to gain more understanding of diseases, hence they can research new medicines, antibiotics, and other effective cures to help people cure them. This can be seen in smallpox, malaria or monkeypox, which are considered life-threatening. In the past, people failed to produce vaccines to deal with them, but nowadays individuals have effective medicines to handle these diseases. Another possible benefit is higher-quality education. This is because people design and improve lectures to be suitable for students.
In conclusion, while I partially agree that the quality of life for people is better, I would disagree that it will have positive impacts on the environment.
