The 21st century is a cutting-edge century whereas it is the era of technology. Human beings are inventing more technological devices to elevate the living standard to another level. However, along with the evolution of society and technology, there are also many mental illnesses that coexist. From my own opinion, I hold a neutral point of view.
To initiate with, the 21st century is depicted as the era of technology evolution like artificial intelligence, the era of electric vehicles. To be more clear, a comparison between the previous century’s navigation with the current one can demonstrate how easier and convenient people’s life is. In the previous century, travelers in particular and everyone in general had to use paper maps which were teeming with small instructions. This type of navigation exasperated the travelers and the ones who tried to reach their destinations. That exasperation in using a huge map with a deluge of small letters and details has set the inducement for the advent of Google map. Everyone now can access the Google map and all they need to do is to look up for their preferred reaches and then follow the instructions. Google map provides detailed instructions of the fastest road even where there is vehicle congestion so that people can evade. The navigation device can already be an empirical evidence of a better quality life than the previous century.
However, although the technological gadgets have delivered the standard living quality to a higher level, it also comes with a deluge of mental illnesses such as stress, mental disorders, chronic autism. To be more precise, I narrow it down to how technology renders a threat to job security. In the 2010s, the era of artificial intelligence is rising and in the embryonic state. Following that, when ChatGPT was publicly introduced, a veritable avalanche of questions about whether workers being replaced by ChatGPT in the future. This possibility not only might dedicate to the job unemployment rate but also result in the rise of people with mental illnesses due to job loss. According to the World Health Organization, the death tolls of anxiety, depression, and mental disorders have transcended rapidly.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that even though in the 21st century people have a better physical quality of life but in mental life terms, I hold the view that 21st century’s cutting-edge evolution is suffocating people.
