People buy high-end goods for a variety of reasons. Firstly, customers may choose famous brands due to their product quality that have been shown consistently in recognized brand names. Customers may have prior experiences about brands or rely on public word-of-mouth so they know or believe these brands’ quality. Secondly, people want to own luxury items to support their personal or professional image. People often purchase clothes from luxury brands to be fashionable, trendy or high class. Some people drive high-price cars because it can contribute to their image as higher status, well -to -do or sophisticated professional.
From my perspective, consuming more and more luxury goods can cause some negative issues. Firstly, it can create a financial burden for many consumers. Some people can not afford to pay for luxury items but they try their best to buy them that are non-essential products, only for a sense of professional image. Therefore, they have to work harder or go into credit card debt. Secondly, buying expensive stuff may make consumers unhappy. When I accept that owning luxury items can make people feel more confident and privileged than others, it also spur feelings of inauthenticity. Many people feel uncomfortable carrying expensive products around because they feel like they are showing off or they are not really fit with these luxury items.
In conclusion, people may buy brand name products by their believe in quality or creating a personal image but I believe this consumption leaves dark effects.
